The Role

The Cake4Kids Ambassador role is a volunteer position responsible for bringing Cake4Kids to a new area, introducing the organization to their community, getting the organization off the ground and leading ongoing support, promotion and advocacy. It’s exciting and rewarding and well worth the time you invest — responsibilities require approximately 7-10 hours of your time each month.

Cake4Kids Staff is responsible for the strategy and mission, staffing, budget and all day-to-day management and operations and will provide you with the tools, training, and support to execute the role.

Cake4Kids Ambassador Responsibilities:  

  1. Lead agency recruiting and engagement:

    1. Research and identify prospective agency partners

    2. Foster positive, ongoing relationships with agency partners through periodic check-ins via email, phone, or in-person visits  

  2. Lead volunteer recruiting and engagement:

    1. Promote Cake4Kids volunteer baker opportunities through personal networks and community outreach

      1. Post flyers and promotional materials around community and in local stores

      2. Host volunteer recruitment table at local events such as farmers markets, community centers, churches, or partners

    2. Recruit chapter support team, through baker community and personal network, to assist with volunteer and agency recruitment, social media, events, and fundraising, and volunteer appreciation 

    3. Plan and execute volunteer engagement activities to foster community and retain volunteers through volunteer meetups, volunteer appreciation, and volunteer communications

  3. Manage public chapter Facebook page and optional Instagram accounts, with the help of your volunteer social media coordinator, to build community, build awareness, and draw support

  4. Meet the annual chapter fundraising goal

    1. Plan and host local fundraising activities while building Cake4Kids awareness and support 

    2. Actively participate in national fundraisers

  5. Seek media opportunities to promote Cake4Kids through print or online formats, press releases and/or podcasts

  6. Represent Cake4Kids in your community and act as chapter’s press spokesperson

Cake4Kids Operating Philosophy:  

  1. Ambassador must maintain privacy and confidentiality in compliance with our Ambassador Agreement

  2. Ambassador should review email regularly and respond to correspondence with Cake4Kids staff and volunteers in their chapter in a timely manner

  3. Ambassador and Cake4Kids leadership will have regular touch points via virtual meetings, including monthly ambassador meeting (evening), ad-hoc training (evening), and periodic chapter reviews (typically semi-annual)

Skills and Experience:

  • Must have baking and decorating experience

  • Track record of long-term volunteer roles with a minimum of two years combined experience

  • Management or leadership experience in professional or volunteer environment desired

  • Experience planning fundraisers or soliciting partnerships or sponsorships desired

  • Ability to handle multiple priorities

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

  • Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides, Google Drive, Slack, and Salesforce experience a plus
